Instruction + Assessment

We partner with schools, districts, practitioners, policy makers, and others to develop educators capable of designing and implementing systems that weave together the three essentials of effective learning—curriculum, instruction and assessment—and that inspire students to pursue deep, meaningful work.

Changing the conversation from compliant to student-centered.

Meeting standards is a check-box, not an aspiration to excellence. We support states, districts and schools to articulate expectations that far exceed national standards. The ultimate goal: students who are engaged in their learning and who succeed in college and career.

Focusing implementation on fairness and equity.

In order to ensure equitable outcomes, emerging instruction and assessment systems must accommodate substantive student diversity and sensitivity to racial, ethnic and cultural differences, learning styles, language proficiency, and more. Flexible tools that support awareness and sensitivity help build teacher capacity and student trust.

Improving practice through inquiry and continuous improvement.

We work with clients to create professional communities of educators who are deeply engaged in the work of continuous improvement. Our approach is based on the inquiry cycle with a focus on the challenges that most impact curriculum, instruction, and assessment. We begin with current practice, introduce practical tools and new content, and support integration into practice.

Quality Performance Assessment: A Guide for Schools and Districts

2012

Category: Performance Assessment

QPA-Guide-cover

Quality Performance Assessment: A Guide for Schools and Districts, published by CCE in 2012, looks at the process of making performance assessments that are rigorous, valid, and reliable and, at the same time, relevant and engaging for students. The guide leads readers through the process by using tools, protocols, and case studies that showcase various entry points and experiences.

Chapter 1 demonstrates how performance assessment at the school, district, and state levels can be a driver of professional development and student achievement. Chapters 2 through 5 provide a road map to the QPA Framework. Chapter 5 concludes with an examination of the power of networks of educators using performance assessments collaboratively.
