Data-Based Inquiry

We create professional learning communities of educators who are deeply engaged in the work of continuous improvement. Data-based inquiry with an equity lens is at the heart of our work, with a particular focus on the challenges that most impact curriculum design, instruction, and assessment.

Data Inquiry Cycle

Student performance and attainment data lives everywhere in the learning environment: in lesson plans; in student papers, projects, reports, art and even play; in parent meetings; in test scores. Examining these many sources creates opportunities to consider: What strengths and challenges are being revealed? What are the causes of the most troubling issues? What do our analyses tell us about what needs to be improved?

Disaggregation of this data by race, income, gender, language, ability, and risk factors yields further insight into strengths and gaps.

The experience of working through the data and responding to its implications and directions strengthens the community—and yields practices that lead to high expectations and an intellectually challenging education for every student.
