About CPTP
Community Partnerships for Teacher Pipeline (CPTP) is an initiative to build a community-based teacher pipeline that strengthens the teaching profession by increasing the number of teachers of color, funded by the federal Supporting Effective Educators Development (SEED) grant. The project is a partnership among Rio Hondo College, El Camino College, Cerritos College and Center for Collaborative Education (CCE) to serve 300 community college students who are exploring teaching as a career path in STEM Education, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, inclusive of all grade levels and subjects.
Research shows that having a same-race teacher significantly improves student outcomes and reduces disparities between students of color and white students. CPTP is building a diverse teaching workforce that is representative of student demographics in our communities.
CPTP identifies, recruits, trains, and supports prospective teachers through an enhanced advisory mentoring and career development model within historically under-resourced schools and communities. The program focuses on the high-need areas of Special Education, STEM Education, and Early Childhood Education.
