School design teams establish a shared vision for their school redesign project that emphasizes an equitable and student-centered learning environment. Teams then move into an equity audit of the classrooms, school, and wider district and community environment to gain a strong sense of the assets of the school as well as the areas of need. The design team will then set equity-focused, student-centered goals and priorities.
The design team prepares to embark on a redesign cycle, first by ensuring team inclusivity and cultural competence by exploring team members’ identities that may impact the process. The team then builds a growth and learning plan for the group and its individual members. They will gather input from students and the wider school community to inform the ongoing initiative.
