Annie Leonard
Director for Community & School Programming
Annie leads the conceptualization, design, and implementation of programs that advance CCE’s mission of increasing educational equity by bringing communities and schools together to ensure that students succeed and communities thrive. Annie is based in the Boston area and helps lead projects including The Reciprocity Project in the Boston communities of Allston-Brighton and Harbor Point, and the MA DESE Innovation Career Pathways initiative. She brings professional and scholarly expertise in change leadership, deeper learning pedagogies, social-emotional learning, and educator collaboration to her work at CCE. The throughlines in her long career in education are an abiding belief in the power and potential of young people and in the urgency of transforming schools into places that provide authentic, identity-affirming learning experiences to students and the educators that support them. Annie is a visiting professor and mentor to principal candidates at Salem State University. She has been a public school educator for thirty years, serving as a teacher, project director, assistant principal, and principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in rural, suburban, and urban districts. She holds BA and MAT degrees from Brown University and a PhD in Educational Leadership from UMass Amherst.
